St Andrew’s Celebrates Friendship with Inaugural URStrong Day

Last week, St Andrew’s School fostered a spirit of connection and celebrated the power of positive relationships during its inaugural URStrong Friendship Day on Thursday 16 May.

The day, designed to engage students from Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 6, was filled with engaging activities that aligned with the URStrong program’s “Friend Ninja” principles. Students participated in interactive workshops focused on building connections, implementing a whole-school friendship strategy, and broadening the common language of friendship with students, teachers, and the entire community.

A highlight of the day included a presentation by URStrong’s Tyson Greenwood, captivating students with scenarios and utilising the Friend-O-Meter. Students also enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, from creating personalised friendship bracelets and exploring the wonders of the “Garden of Friendship” to unleashing their creativity with artist-in-residence, James Parker. The day culminated in a performance of the friendship song by students from Reception to Year 6.

The dedication of the Wellbeing team, led by Director Donna Longden, was instrumental in creating such a fun-filled and inclusive day. Their months of planning ensured a memorable experience, and students are already eagerly anticipating the next Friendship Day.

Thank you to Donna and her team, as well as to Tyson Greenwood from URStrong for his engaging presentation and participation. We say thank you to our talented artist-in-residence, James Parker. We look forward to displaying the beautiful friendship totem poles and murals he created around the School, serving as a lasting reminder of this special day.

The day’s activities not only provided entertainment but also equipped students with valuable social and emotional learning skills that will benefit them throughout their school journey and beyond. By fostering a culture of kindness, respect, and inclusivity, St Andrew’s School remains committed to nurturing the wellbeing of its students and creating a positive learning environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
